Creative Characters

In this line of business we really do get to meet some wonderfully creative characters and the companies that they have created. These are a group of individuals that are striving to bring their passion for life, for nature and for the wonderful planet that we all inhabit, and share it with us all.

We have been stocking Nomads Clothing from Cornwall for a number of years now. As a collection it has always been at the top of our best seller charts and is loved by one and all – a collection that spans the generations. Nomads are based in Launceston, Cornwall and they are very proud to operate within Fairtrade affiliation.

The company operates under strict government Fairtrade guidelines and maintains that the employees of their production facility in India are treated fairly and with respect. As a company they specialise in clothing manufactured from organic cotton, and because of the elimination of harmful toxic chemical pesticides the fabric is softer, hypoallergenic, comfortable, breathable and perfect to wear in hot climates. Their summer collection is called ‘The Tropics’ and the colour story was put together from the comfort of a hammock on a tropical Thai island, surrounded by bright Hibiscus pink flowers, rich jungle greens and the tallest of Palm trees … sounds like an awful day at work doesn’t it !! …

Leaping from a Melbury success story to a brand that is new to us this year. For the summer ’15 season we have decided to try a French label called Goubi. They have a number of shops and outlets throughout France. They have a fantastically bright range of women’s, menswear and children’s clothing. We have opted for a small selection from their natural fibre women’s wear range. Beautiful prints like Anemone (shown in the photo), Lotus and Hibiscus are sure to tempt you. The prices are fantastic and we have no idea how they can produce a collection in natural fibres, fully lined for £34 for a tunic, £35 for a skirt and £39 for a dress… On the ticket of every garment, you will see an envelope, in the envelope is a ‘Goubi’ bean…. And yes they do grow – we’ve tried!  … this is just Goubi’s way of giving something back to the planet.

From the picture below you will see a wonderfully talented and extremely glamourous lady – you would never believe that when she left school she trained as a Welder!. Eventually Lisa came to her senses and spent the next 20 years in a creative heaven, designing products for the likes of Liberty’s and Peter Jones. In 2009 Lisa and her best friend started on a new adventure, creating a special brand of fashion accessories which they called – Powder, from foundations of Steel … Lisa is now enjoying the Silk route.

Lisa now lives on a farm in the middle of nowhere on the outskirts of Edinburgh, with her two boys and a poodle, where she and her team create the most gorgeous, uniquely designed accessories in such an array of stunning colours. We have been stocking Powder silk scarves for a number of years. Each of the scarves are supplied with deliciously stylish gift packaging, which makes them even more irresistible. If you have a special gift you need for someone this summer, share our ‘passion’ for loveable style … or just go ahead and treat yourself xx
